Invisalign FAQ’s

Invisalign is one of the most popular teeth straightening solutions and we know you may have some questions, so we’ve put together a handy FAQ page to help you start your journey.

Can Invisalign treat overbite and underbite?

Dental issues such as an underbite, overbite and crossbite can cause issues such as tooth wear and damage, difficulty eating or speaking clearly. In many cases, Invisalign can move teeth into the correct position to treat these issues for adults and teens.

Your local Clear Brace Group practice will be able to guide you through the right treatment option for you.

Will crowns prevent me from having Invisalign treatment?

In most cases, having dental crowns will not prevent you from being a candidate for Invisalign treatment. However, in some cases your treatment will require ‘attachments’ to be used to achieve the desired result. These are bonded to teeth and can be more difficult to bond on crowns than on teeth. If Invisalign isn’t the right treatment for you, there may be other discreet options available and your Dentist will assess your suitability for Invisalign and guide you through the right treatment.

Can Invisalign close the gaps in my teeth?

Diastemas (gaps in teeth) are a common issue usually seen in the upper two front teeth. Invisalign can assist with correcting several orthodontic problems, including gaps in teeth for most cases; your Dentist will assess your suitability for Invisalign and guide you through the right option.

Can Invisalign help straighten teeth if I have had braces in the past?

If you have had braces in the past and are experiencing a relapse (the shifting that happens after having braces) this can often be corrected by Invisalign treatment. Many Invisalign patients have undergone orthodontic treatment in their past.

Can I have Invisalign treatment if I am currently wearing traditional braces?

In some cases, it may be possible to switch treatment from traditional braces to Invisalign. If you are considering switching from braces to Invisalign aligners, talk the team at your local Portman Clear Brace Group practice, who will help you discover the right treatment option for you.

Can any dentist offer Invisalign treatment?

Special training is required to be able to treat patients with Invisalign. The Dentist providing Invisalign at your local Portman Clear Brace Group practice will have attended this special training and will be certified to treat patients using the system.

How often will I need to visit the practice during my Invisalign treatment?

During your Invisalign treatment, you will typically need to visit the practice every 6 – 8 weeks so that your Dentist can monitor the progression of treatment, make adjustments, and ensure that you are getting the best results. During these visits, you will also receive your next few sets of aligners if required.

How long do I need to wear Invisalign aligners for?

The duration of your Invisalign treatment may range from 6 – 14 months, but this is dependent on your clinical needs, which will be assessed during your initial consultation. Throughout your treatment plan, you will receive a series of clear aligners, custom-made for you. Each aligner will be worn for approximately two weeks at a time, before being replaced by the next in the series until your teeth are in the desired position.
